Undergraduate Mentoring Program

Are you an undergraduate anthropology student and could use the advice of a graduate student mentor on topics such as searching for graduate programs, applying to graduate school, studying for the GRE, presenting a poster or paper at a meeting, etc.?  Are you searching for an honors thesis or independent research project?  Would you like to volunteer for a graduate student and get some hands-on experience in methods and research?  More information (doc)

Call for Volunteers

"Girls Explore Archaeology" is a program designed to introduce middle school girls to the field of archaeology.  It's a collaboration between OSU and COSI Columbus, funded in part by the Battelle Endowment for Technology and Human Affairs.  Girls from central Ohio schools will converge on COSI for a day of activities, including hands-on workshops led by local professional female archaeologists and a session with visiting archaeologist Dr. Melinda Zeder, Director of the Archaeobiology Program at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History.

We are looking for undergraduate women majoring in Anthropology who would like to serve as mentors for this program, to be held on Saturday April 19, 2008.  Each volunteer mentor will work with a group of 5-6 girls throughout the day, answering questions and providing assistance.

Volunteers will receive:

A certificate of participation in the program
Lunch on the day of the program
    A "Girls Explore Archaeology" tee-shirt
A pass to return to COSI free of charge to visit the museum
A training session prior to the event

The day of the program, we may be able to provide transportation to and from OSU campus.

Are you interested in volunteering  as  a student mentor?  Think you might be, but still have some questions?  Contact Dr. Gremillion,
